WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. -- Police have identified the body of a man found near a West Mifflin housing complex on Thursday.

Investigators said 43-year-old David Loftin, of Hazelwood, was dropped off at the Monview Heights housing complex late Saturday night.

Investigators said the woman who dropped him off was told to drive around until Loftin called for her to pick him up. She told police that he never called, so she left the area.

Residents of the Monview Heights housing complex told officers that they heard gunfire early Sunday morning. Police said Loftin's friends reported him missing Monday morning.

West Mifflin police said they were searching for Loftin this morning when his body was discovered on a hillside behind the housing complex. Police said Loftin suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Investigators said they think Loftin was shot somewhere else and collapsed and died on the hillside as he was trying to get away.

County detectives and forensics investigators have focused on one apartment, looking for evidence and trying to determine if that's where he was shot, reported Channel 11's Jodine Costanzo.

Investigators said one witness was taken in for questioning. Police said the shooter is still on the loose.
